Rabbi Liat Yardeni-Funk, our new Director of Education, is excited to return to Sephardic Temple Tifereth Israel.  Rabbi Yardeni-Funk was our Director of Education from 1998 to 2003. She will oversee our Hebrew School curriculum and programming, lead Adult Torah Classes, Women’s Shabbat Services, and plan educational and spiritual events for our Temple Community.

We are delighted to have Rabbi Yardeni-Funk on board and privileged to share her valuable time with Milken Community High School, where she is Director of the Tiferet Israel Program.  Prior to Milken, Rabbi Yardeni-Funk was the Rabbi and Director of Judaic Studies at Stephen S. Wise Temple Elementary School.  She also served as the Director of Education at Camp Ramah.  Her curriculum, “Israel:  Then, Now and Forever” was the pilot program for experiential and interactive campers in Israel.

Rabbi Yardeni-Funk was born and raised in Jerusalem.  Her passion for Israel and Judaism is the driving force in her work. She strives to inspire the Jewish community to love Jewish traditions, the Hebrew language and the State of Israel.  She is committed to a love for our people, Am Yisrael, a love for our land, Eretz Israel and a love for our Torah, Torat Yisrael.

Rabbi Yardeni-Funk served as a Second Lieutenant in the Israeli Intelligence Unit of the Israeli Defense Forces.  She completed her B.A. in Psychology from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and earned her first M.A. in Education from California State University Northridge (CSUN).  Rabbi Yardeni-Funk graduated from The Academy for Jewish Religion (AJR) where she received her second M.A. in Talmud and Rabbinical Studies.  She was ordained at AJR in 2006.  Rabbi Yardeni-Funk is married to Mark Funk, a CFO, and they have two children, a daughter, Karen Or and a son, Jonathan Tzvili (Yoni).

This is an exciting year for our Hebrew School!  As we continue to grow, we seek to build upon the success of our program.  It is a year of growth and continuous change with the singular goal of providing our children with an excellent Jewish education. Our faculty, clergy and Board of Directors are striving to help our students become active and involved in the Sephardic Jewish Community.

We will continue our integrative and comprehensive approach to teach our students the 6 pillars of Judaism:  Hebrew Reading, Prayer, Jewish Holidays, Torah, Jewish Values and Israel Education. We will incorporate programs that enable our students to explore the rich traditions of Sephardic Judaism through family and Shabbat programs, and classroom instruction.

During the coming year, we look forward to the continued support and involvement of our amazing parents to insure our program’s continued success.  We welcome your feedback and encouragement, and look forward to growing our extended synagogue family. We care deeply about the future of your children and their future is our highest priority.
We look forward to a productive and successful year!
