Our Beautiful Miriam Cohen – Shared by Sam Cohen
Miriam Cohen was born in Los Angeles, California on February 26th, 1928 to parents Samuel and Lucille Cohen. She was their only child. In 1945, Miriam was working at her uncle’s record store in Los Angeles when a young Army-Air Corp officer named Harry J. Cohen came in. They met and soon thereafter Harry would become her future husband. They were married on March 17, 1946 in Los Angeles. Since Miriam’s surname happened to be Cohen, she did not have to change her name!
Miriam was able to travel with Harry during his various deployments, including to Arizona. Harry and Miriam did not waste any time starting a family as their first child, Catherine Inez was born on January 9th, 1947. After the birth of Catherine, they were able to build their forever home in Inglewood, California, where to this day, their home still remains.
Soon afterwards, Jeffery Joseph was born on October 27, 1949. Their third child, Samuel Steven was born on August 21st, 1955. Much to their surprise, Miriam became pregnant 10 years later with their fourth child, (the late) Rodney Lee on November 4th, 1965.
Miriam was blessed with 7 grandchildren: Allan, Jennifer, Adam, Andrew, Victoria, Bradley, and Tyler. She was further blessed with 7 great-grandchildren: Sara, Emma, Nathan, Samantha, Rainier, Wyatt, and Sophia.
Miriam was a stay-at-home mother and took care of both her children and her grandchildren before and during her employment with the Inglewood Unified School District starting in the 1970’s. She worked as a teacher’s aid until her retirement at the age of 70.
Miriam’s greatest joy was to spend time with her family and friends. In the end she was completely and lovingly surrounded by her family’s presence as she peacefully passed on August 2nd.
