Sephardic Tradition And Recreation

Sephardic Tradition And Recreation (S.T.A.R.) is a thriving Jewish youth organization serving the Sephardic Jewish Community of Los Angeles and the San Fernando area. The goal of S.T.A.R. is to provide meaningful, educational, and social programing for our youth, enhancing their awareness of these six principles:

COMMUNITY – VALUES – TRADITION – PRESERVATION – ISRAEL – PRIDE

Since our inception in 1998 by Hyman Jebb Levy, S.T.A.R. has been making its mark on the Sephardic youth of Los Angeles. On a monthly basis, S.T.A.R. organizes trips to various Los Angeles attractions and amusement events. The events are divided between two age groups, the first is for ages 7-12 and the second is for ages 13-15. The organization, safety, and daily operations of S.T.A.R. is maintained by our Executive Director, Rabbi Yitchak Sakhai, and our dedicated Madrichim (counselors), Volunteers, support staff, and the S.T.A.R. Board Members.

S.T.A.R. actively recruits young men and women to act as advisors and mentors to the children who attend the trips. Each event includes a Dvar Torah on a variety of Jewish themes. All S.T.A.R. events maintain Kosher dietary laws and traditional Sephardic customs. The events range from elaborate Shabbatons to field trips, sporting events, and museums.

S.T.A.R. has created a place where Sephardic youth can socialize, explore, and learn about their rich cultural heritage. Parents are encouraged to sign their children up for a S.T.A.R. event and see for themselves the wonderful benefits of being involved.
